As a BB&T client, all you need is U by BB&T account access and your mobile number or email address to take advantage of Zelle. Your trusted recipient’s email address or U.S. mobile phone number is all you need to send them money.

Why should I use it?

Digital and debit/credit card transactions have made it exceptionally quick and convenient for us to make payments and transact business. Yet, personal payments – paying the health care aide or settling up after a trip have, until now, required having cash on hand, writing a check or trusting both your personal and bank account information to a third party app. Not surprisingly, our clients have been asking why they can’t have the convenience and speed of digital payments within the safety of their banking app that they already have on their phone? So, we’ve been working with Early Warning Services to develop that technology.

Why Zelle?

While there are other personal payment options, Zelle was developed to send money directly between financial institutions – no middle man – so it is free to BB&T clients! BB&T offers Zelle daily transaction limits up to $1,0002 and the money goes straight from you to your family and friends, limiting the entities that have access to your banking information.

What if my friend’s bank doesn’t use Zelle?

No problem! Almost anyone with a bank account in the U.S. can receive money by using the Zelle app. Zelle is intended for sending money to family, friends and people you know and trust. If your trusted recipient’s bank or credit union does not yet participate, then all they have to do is download the Zelle app and enroll their Visa® or MasterCard® debit card.
